Sheffield United have appointed Andrew Hughes as lead coach of their Under-23 side, after his departure from Huddersfield Town in January.

Hughes spent two-and-a-half years working as first-team coach to David Wagner, at Huddersfield.

But despite having left shortly after the German-American boss, it took until May before a legal agreement was reached with the Terriers.

And three months on Hughes is back in work at another Yorkshire-based Premier League club, Sheffield United, in a role which previously belonged to John Dungworth.

Hughes had notable playing spells at Oldham, Notts County, Reading, Norwich City and Leeds United, before hanging up his boots at Charlton Athletic at the start of the decade.

Prior to his spell at Huddersfield, the new Sheffield United recruit had coaching stints at Bolton Wanderers, Rotherham United and Crystal Palace.

Footballers Simon Cox (Southend United) and Dillion Murphy (Charlton Athletic), as well as the Rangers coach Graeme Murty, are among those who have wished Hughes well in his new role at Bramall Lane.
