Southampton are preparing a £13 million bid to bring Omar Colley to St Mary’s, with Rai Sport claiming that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have been impressed by the Sampdoria centre-back.
Considering the South Coast club have the joint-second worst defensive record in the whole of the Premier League (a statistic rather skewed of course by that 9-0 thumping at Leicester City), it is no surprise that a powerful centre-back has entered their sights.
6ft 3ins Gambia international Colley has impressed in Serie A with his reading of the game and competitive spirit.
The 27-year-old averages almost five clearances per game, and has an eye-watering nine yellow cards to his name.
According to Rai Sport, Southampton sent scouts to watch Colley in action a few months ago and they were obviously impressed by his performances before the season was put on hold due to the global health crisis.
Because the Saints are now prepared to invest an initial £13 million to bring the former Genk ace to the Premier League this summer.
Colley could forge an impressive partnership with the classy, intelligent Jack Stephens while his arrival might also open the door for Jannik Vestergaard to leave, considering that the Danish international has been flirting heavily with the exit in recent times.
