Deyovaisio Zeefuik has admitted that he plans to leave Groningen sooner rather than later, with Southampton keen to snap up the former Holland youth star this summer, while speaking to AD.

The transfer market has not even opened, but it seems that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are wasting no time at all as they draw up their recruitment plans.

Right at the top of the tick list will be a new right-back, with Cedric Soares and Tottenham loanee Kyle Walker-Peters set to depart at the end of the campaign.

Southampton have a fine track record when it comes to snapping up some of the Eredivisie’s biggest talents and, according to Voetbal Zone, an Amsterdam-born 22-year-old could follow in the footsteps of Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle and Maya Yoshida.

A speedy and attack-minded full-back, Zeefuik has just one year left on his contract at Groningen. And it seems that he feels the time is right to up sticks after two seasons at the Euroborg.

“My agent has noticed that there is plenty of interest. And I have not made it a secret before: it is time for the next step,” says a man who made just six appearances for Ajax before leaving the Johan Cruyff Arena.

“My contract has only a year left. Groningen now has the opportunity to earn something from me. Money is important to the club

“Groningen is a very warm club. It felt that way in January 2018 when I came here. And that’s how it will feel when I leave soon.”

Zeefuik is one of a number of promising, affordable youngsters who have been tipped to join Southampton recently, alongside Italy U21 international striker Gianluca Scamacca and ex-PSG prospect Noe Masevo.

It feels like the Saints are well placed to adapt to a market shaken up by the ongoing global health crisis.
