Marie France Van Damme’s First U.S. Outpost
Next Monday, Sept. 25, Hong Kong-based resortwear brand Marie France Van Damme mariefrancevandamme.com (loved by the likes of Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Olivia Palermo, Christina Hendricks, and Catherine Zeta-Jones) will open its first freestanding U.S. boutique and ninth global store within the Peninsula Beverly Hills.
The 464-square-foot space will feature the designer’s embroidered tunics, silk caftans and bathing suits (sophisticated enough to wear well beyond the beach), along with the label’s silk pajama sets that could also easily double as streetwear, seasonless metallic sweaters, sunglasses, an all-white Beach Bridal collection, and easygoing evening dresses such as a gold lamé racerback midi dress. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Journelle’s First West Coast Boutique
Today, the ten-year-old New York-based luxury lingerie label Journelle (that counts Jessica Chastain as a fan), opens its fifth U.S. shop and first west coast boutique at Westfield Century City, featuring some brighter, exclusive-to-L.A. colorways and a larger selection of silk pieces and loungewear (from $26 for a lace camisole up to $828 for a satin corset dress) than can be found in other stores.
Also in the mix at the 1,500-square-foot space is Journelle’s third Emerging Designer collection (including designs by Swiss label Lyn Lingerie, New York designer Taryn Winters, UK brand Serene Intimates and Brooklyn-based, made-in-Italy label The Great Eros) that launched Sept. 5 The store merchandises bras by size, rather than style, to simplify lingerie shopping.

Four-Day Everlane Denim Pop-Up Shop
San Francisco-based direct-to-consumer online fashion brand Everlane (that boasts Angelina Jolie, Gigi Hadid, Jaime King, Malia Obama, Sienna Miller, Shailene Woodley and Taylor Swift as clients) released its first denim collection on Sept. 7, immediately resulting in a 48,862-person wait list.
Now the brand is testing the waters with The Denim Counter pop-up shop in WeHo today through Sunday, Sept 24, stocking three women’s styles (The High-Rise Skinny, The Mid-Rise Skinny and The Modern Boyfriend) in four washes and two men’s styles (The Slim Fit and The Straight Fit) in three washes. All styles are crafted of premium Japanese denim and retail for $68. The pop-up shop has traveled from New York and will land next at 403 SW 10th Avenue in Portland on Oct. 20 and 21. The store’s design is inspired by the brand’s sustainable denim factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which recycles 98 percent of water used during production. L.A. store hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Row DTLA Openings & Weekend Block Party
This Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24, the Row DTLA shopping complex will host a free, two-day Block Party featuring special sales and events in each store, live music by rapper Duckwrth and R&B singer A. Chal, art installations, a watercolor painting table, pinch bowl workshops by Still Life Ceramics, yoga classes, a skate ramp with pro skaters, food trucks, a beer garden, and an outdoor screening of “The Goonies” film on Saturday night (doors open at 6 p.m., screening at 8 p.m.). Block party hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The latest store openings at Row DTLA include Mission Workshop the San Francisco-based line of tailored performance apparel and weather-proof bags for men and women that relocated its L.A. store from Sunset Boulevard last Monday, Sept. 18.
On Saturday, September 23, multi-brand fashion e-tailer Lust, Covet Desire (founded in Venice in 2012 by former Atlantic Records exec Geraldine Chung, with a shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard) opens its second brick-and-mortar location, dedicated to emerging designers. Saturday also marks the debut of the first global flagship for sustainable Australian mens surf and streetwear brand Banks Journal, the second store and first Southern California location for Portland fashion label Bridge & Burn (relaxed classics for men and women), and the first store location for L.A.-based, made-in-the-U.S.A. children’s apparel line Omamimini.

AAPE By A Bathing Ape’s First U.S. Outpost
On Friday, Sept. 15, Lil Yachty, Teyana Taylor, 6LACK, and Matthew Espinosa were among the crowd that stepped out to celebrate the opening of the first U.S. store from Japanese menswear street label AAPE By A Bathing Ape in Beverly Grove.
The label is a diffusion of higher-end cult streetwear line A Bathing Ape (founded in 1993 by Tomoaki "Nigo" Nagao, who has since left the brand; that label also has an L.A. location set to open across the street from Maxfield later this fall). The 2,300-square-foot AAPE store features an exclusive 8-piece L.A. Collection of hoodies, t-shirts, caps and sweatpants ($59-$179), designed in celebration of the new shop, with a unique orange camo logo pattern that incorporates a star motif inspired by the U.S. flag. The store has an industrial vibe with a concrete floor, steel and metal displays, track lighting and a neon logo sign. Limited-edition AAPE towels and cup sets will be given away with purchases, while supplies last.

The Office Of Angela Scott Launches Bag Line
The Office Of Angela Scott, a made-in-Portugal footwear label for ladies with a masculine aesthetic, opened its first L.A. shop in late 2015; styles include $175 slip-on sneakers and oxfords, monkstraps and loafers (also in wedge, ankle boot and block heel formats) that range from $395 to $575.
Now the company created by the Santa Barbara-based designer has extended into bags with a 13-piece line of sleek leather zip pouches in various sizes, plus a convertible backpack and one wallet ($135 to $535) in solid black, a black star pattern and a distressed brown houndstooth print with metallic accents. While the line officially lands in October, the bags are now available for pre-order at the store. A-list clients include Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Taylor Swift, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Ellen DeGeneres and Jessica Lange (who recently snapped up a pair of sand-colored Mr. Derby Wedge Oxfords).

L.A. Fashion Brand The Great Extends Into Footwear
Mandy Moore, Minka Kelly, and Rumer and Scout Willis were among the crowd that showed up for a barbecue at Rolling Greens nursery on Monday, Sept. 18 to celebrate the launch of the first footwear design by L.A. designers Emily Current and Meritt Elliott for their fashion label The Great.
A vintage-inspired, lace-up Boxcar ankle boot with extra-long laces ($425 in three weathered-looking colors: charcoal black, cognac and cordovan) is now available online. After being besieged with requests to buy a similar vintage boot featured in their lookbooks, the designers finally created their own take on the boot for fall. The label plans to roll out a full footwear line for spring 2018.

Koio x The Beverly Hills Hotel Shoe Collab
New York-based luxe sneaker brand Koio has teamed up with The Beverly Hills Hotel to release three exclusive suede-trim, Italian calf leather sneakers decorated with the hotel’s famed Martinique banana leaf pattern, developed exclusively for The Beverly Hills Hotel wallpaper in 1942 by Hollywood decorator Don Loper. The three Italian-made, unisex styles (two low tops, $475 each, and one high top, $550) will be available exclusively at The Beverly Hills Hotel shop and online as of this Saturday, Sept. 23.

Stephen Webster x Blondey McCoy Jewelry
Today, Sept. 21, British fine jewelry designer Stephen Webster touches down at his Beverly Hills boutique to fete the launch of a collaborative collection with 20-year-old fellow Brit, pro skateboarder-artist-designer and all-around “It” boy Blondey McCoy, founder of the streetwear brand Thames.
The unisex, 14-karat yellow gold Thames by Stephen Webster collection ($420-$13,500) includes 12 pieces: six rings, two single earrings, two pendants, and a chain-link necklace and bracelet. An interlocking T motif from the Thames logo is repeated throughout. Other designs are influenced by everything from a razor blade to George Michael’s signature cross-shaped drop earring.

Alice + Olivia Body-Painting Display & Designer Meet-And-Greet
On Saturday, Sept. 23, fashion label Alice + Olivia (donned by Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift) will take over the Bloomingdale’s windows on Lexington Avenue in New York with an installation from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. in which body-painting artist Trina Merry will paint a model to reflect the brand’s fall collection.
Alice + Olivia’s founder-creative director-CEO Stacey Bendet will be on site to meet and greet customers in Bloomingdale’s second-floor Alice + Olivia shop from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Customers making purchases over $500 will receive a complimentary “Staceface” towel and free cookie dough treats will be provided to all by Cookie Do NYC.

Vince Releases Made-In-L.A. Men’s Denim
New York-based fashion label Vince launches a core men’s denim collection today that is made in Los Angeles. Until now, the brand has offered seasonal, fashion-driven denim pieces for guys. The four styles include The Straight (a relaxed-fit, classic rise jean, $225 or $275 in Japanese selvedge denim), The Skinny (a low-rise and tapered skinny jean, $265), The Slim (a low-rise, tailored jean, $225), and a slim-fit denim Trucker Jacket ($395). Available at select Vince stores and online.
