Hot Springs Village CMEO brings decades of experience to position

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Hot Springs Village Property Owners' Association has announced the addition of Jamie Caperton as its new chief member experience officer.

As CMEO, Caperton, a 40-year veteran of nonprofit service, will be responsible for optimizing member engagement, enhancing member value, encouraging member retention and welcoming new members, the POA said in a news release.

The CMEO will serve as a member of the executive leadership team who promotes the lifestyle and community experience through comprehensive branding strategies, the release said.

She started her professional career as a registered nurse and soon moved into management positions with several corporate leaders in the health care field, it said.

Her passion, though, is working with charities and organizations to provide superior service, the release said.

She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Special Olympics and several other organizations before making a career change to nonprofit fundraising.

She started with the Austin Children's Museum and then moved to Texas Special Olympics as their state fundraising director. She said she considers her best move the decision to take the challenge of founding and directing the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center in Plano, Texas. Caperton served as CEO for that organization for 10 years and then retired.

After 10 years of owning her own consulting firm, which helped nonprofit agencies, Caperton and her husband, Ben, retired to the mountains of Colorado and opened The Cellar Door, a unique wine, home furnishing, décor, gifts and accessories store in Woodland Park.

In 2013, Caperton decided to return to her roots in the nonprofit world and accepted the job as executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Teller County for five years.

A friend recently invited Caperton and her husband to experience Hot Springs Village, where they fell in love with all it had to offer, the release said.

"Several of our friends already live here in the Village," Caperton said. "They invited us to come enjoy all the amenities during the snowstorms of Colorado this past winter and we were sold."

She said she is excited to serve in the position.

"My only reservation about moving was I wasn't ready to stop working yet. The friend that we were staying with said there's a job at the POA, Chief Member Experience Officer, that matches you to a tee. So, I left my resume and Lesley (Nalley, CEO) called me the next week and the rest is history. After several interviews and another wonderful visit to the Village, I was truly hooked on the atmosphere of all this part of the country and the Village has to offer," Caperton said.

"I want to instill a sense of excellence across our service through the Village," she said. "My job is telling people about the Village and making sure that what we offer is done in such a way that everyone that lives or visits here has the best experience possible ... absolutely a dream job."
