Lions' annual Pancake Day fundraiser Saturday

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Hot Springs Village Evening Lions Club will hold its 44th annual Pancake Day fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Coronado Center.

The menu includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. Tickets are $10, or $4 for children 9 years old and younger. Tickets are available from Lion's Club members, or at the door.

"It takes weeks of preparation including the printing and sale of tickets, assigning members to work stations, distributing posters to local establishments and churches, constructing signs to be placed along DeSoto Boulevard and ordering the ingredients to be served," the club said in a news release.

"Work begins Friday night before the event when a setup team retrieves four, heavy grills out of storage and hauls them to the Coronado Center kitchen. Milk, sausages, orange juice, syrup and other ingredients are placed in refrigerators ready for morning's transformation into a yummy breakfast," the release said.

"It takes an all-out effort by club members to put on this event," the release said, and this year the Jessieville High School Lions Leo Club will be there to help.

Pancake Day is one of five major fundraisers for the Evening Lions Club. All moneys raised are donated to charities that serve people, including Village residents, who are sight and hearing impaired, for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and for childhood cancer research.

"The Evening Lions Club donated more than $50,000 to these charities last year and over $1,500,000 since their founding in 1972. Much appreciation goes to the generosity of Village citizens who have supported the Evening Lions over the years," the release said.
