Tropical Storm Isaias blew into Greene and Columbia counties Tuesday and left behind dozens of downed trees, thousands without power and a possible tornado.

Area firefighters, police, public works crews and power companies were called to dozens of locations in Columbia and Greene counties after fallen trees brought down power lines and blocked roads.

Trees came down on buildings in a few locations in eastern Columbia County, including one that struck a house at 16 Woodbridge Ave. in Chatham.

There were no injuries reported in any of the incidents.

There were several reports of a possible tornado sighting in the Chatham area Tuesday afternoon. Those who saw it said it did not touch down.

A tornado will need to be confirmed by the National Weather Service in Albany.

More than 6,300 customers were left without electricity by the storm, which moved quickly out of the area late Tuesday afternoon and gave way to clearing skies.

New York State Electric and Gas reported on its website that more than 5,600 customers were without power. Copake, Ghent, and Hillsdale were the hardest hit by the storm.

National Grid had more than 500 customers without electricity. Areas in the towns of Taghkanic and Chatham had the most customers in the dark.

Central Hudson Gas & Electric reported about 200 without power in the Ancram area and another 100 outages scattered across Greene County. None of the three companies is estimating when power will be fully restored.

The area remains under a tornado watch into the evening, and a flash flood watch remains in effect until Wednesday morning.
