American Airlines plans to add a daily nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Boston beginning in May, the Indianapolis Airport Authority announced Tuesday.

The flights are set to depart Indianapolis twice daily Sunday though Friday and once on Saturdays starting May 7. Tickets will begin going on sale this weekend.

The flights aren’t the first nonstops from Indianapolis International Airport to Boston Logan International Airport. Delta Air Lines already offers daily nonstop flights from Indianapolis to Boston.

Starting in June, Southwest Airlines plans to offer a once-weekly flight from Indianapolis to Boston on Saturdays.

Southwest previously offered two daily nonstop flights between the two cities but began eliminating those routes in 2018.

American Airlines offers nonstop service to 11 U.S. cities. It averages 40 flight departures daily from Indianapolis International—which is the most per day of any airline—and carried an average of 22% of monthly passenger traffic at the airport in 2019.

“Giving Hoosier travelers more options to get there from here is our goal,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, in written comments “More nonstop flight options enable travelers to get to their destinations easily and quickly–and that’s part of the value the Indy airport strives to deliver. The new American Airlines flight aligns perfectly with that mission.”

  1. There is a typo in the article “Indianapolis offers nonstop service to 11 U.S. cities.”

I think American itself offers nonstop to more than 11 cities.

    1. This comment can be deleted. American offers 11 cities.

I just read it as the airport and not American flights originating from Indianapolis.

    2. It is American that offers nonstop flights to 11 cities. We fixed the story. Sorry for the error.
