Prince Philip’s sisters were reportedly banned from attending his and Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding due to a shocking reason.

In the documentary “Prince Philip – A King Among Princes,” author Gyles Brandreth said that Prince Philip’s sisters were not invited to the royal event simply because they were Germans. They were also living in Germany and were married to their German husbands.

“One of whom was still going through the denazification process. So you know, they had to be careful,” he said.

Prince Philip was born in 1921 to Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg. He had four older sisters, Princess Margarita, Theodora, Cecilie, and Sophie. One year after Prince Philip was born, the monarchy of Greece fell apart and his family broke up.

Prince Philip was sent to a boarding school in England, Princess Alice was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was committed to an asylum, Prince Andrew took up residence in Monte Carlo, and three of Prince Philip’s sisters wed German aristocrats who have positions in the Nazi party.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s youngest sister, Sophie, named her oldest son Karl Adolf after the German dictator Adolf Hitler. Sophie revealed in her memoir that she was charmed by Hitler after they had a private lunch. However, she ended up marrying Prince Christoph von Hessen.

“I have to say here, that, although Chri and I changed our political view fundamentally some years later, we were impressed by this charming and seemingly modest man, and by his plans to change and improve the situation in Germany,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip and Her Majesty tied the knot on Nov. 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey. Before their union, Prince Philip received the Duke of Edinburgh title. He is also known as the Earl of Merioneth and the Baron of Greenwich in the county of London.

Prince Philip’s best man was David Mountbatten, the Marquess of Milford Haven. The Queen had eight bridesmaids including her younger sister Princess Margaret.
