The number of arrests made by local law enforcement in the aftermath of a Chubbuck shooting and robbery is now up to seven.
Chubbuck police announced Sunday morning that they had arrested McKinzee Kirkham, 21, of Inkom, and Sage Siler, 20, of Pocatello.
Kirkham and Siler have both been charged with robbery and aggravated battery in connection to the early Thursday morning shooting and robbery at a Chubbuck home that left one man wounded.
Chubbuck police said the alleged shooter during that incident, Kane Simons, 20, of Pocatello, has also now been charged with robbery. Simons, the subject of an intense police manhunt following the Thursday morning incident, was arrested Friday outside of an Idaho Falls mall and was initially booked into Bannock County Jail on aggravated battery and resisting and obstructing charges.
The Sunday revelation from Chubbuck police that the three individuals charged in connection to the shooting are all also facing robbery charges reveals the possible motive for that incident.
If convicted of just the robbery charges against them, Simons, Kirkham and Siler are each facing the possibility of a maximum sentence of life in prison.Â
Chubbuck police released no further details on the arrests of Kirkham and Siler and all police have said about the Thursday morning shooting and robbery is that the man wounded during the incident is expected to survive.Â
Chubbuck police said Sunday they will not be releasing any further information about the case, adding that they are no longer looking for any additional suspects.
Sunday's announcement that Kirkham and Siler were arrested was the latest development in a series of events that began with Thursday morning's shooting and robbery in Chubbuck and continued with the arrests of Simons and four others in Idaho Falls on Friday.Â
Simons was arrested around 5 p.m. Friday outside of the Grand Teton Mall by Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies. Arrested with Simons outside of the mall was Hailey Farmer, 26, of Fort Hall.
Olivia L. Yokoyama, 26, of Bingham County, was with Simons and Farmer when they were approached by sheriff’s deputies. Yokoyama fled to a nearby Chevy Impala and sped away from the mall, striking a police car in the process, authorities said.
In the car driven by Yokoyama were Jared J. Cerino, 29, of Bannock County, and Jerel Tillman, 25, of Fort Hall. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies pursued the Impala and the chase ended when a police vehicle nudged the Impala off the road in Idaho Falls and it came to a halt. Yokoyama, Cerino and Tillman were all arrested.
Simons was considered to be armed and dangerous and had been on the run from law enforcement since early Thursday morning when he allegedly shot the man at a residence in the 4600 block of Ponderosa Street in Chubbuck.
The victim, who has not been named by law enforcement, was transported via ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.
Following the shooting, police launched an intense manhunt for Simons and received information on Friday that he was at the Grand Teton Mall in Idaho Falls.
Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies responded to the mall but Simons spotted them as he was exiting the mall. He fled on foot but the deputies caught up to him in the mall parking lot and arrested him.
With Simons when he exited the mall were Farmer and Yokoyama, both of whom took off running when they spotted the deputies, authorities said.
The deputies caught up with Farmer in the mall parking lot and arrested her, but Yokoyama was able to get into a Chevy Impala in the parking lot and leave the mall, striking a police car in the process, authorities said.
The officer in the police car was not injured and the police car suffered damage but was still drivable, police said.
After leaving the mall area, Yokoyama headed west on Sunnyside Road at a high rate of speed with multiple law enforcement officers in pursuit, police said.
As the Impala neared Interstate 15 an Idaho State Police trooper deployed spike strips in an attempt to slow the car. Police said they are unsure if the spike strips were successful.
As the Impala attempted to turn onto Interstate 15 from Sunnyside Road, a police vehicle nudged the car causing it to slide off the side of the road and come to a halt, authorities said. Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies then arrested Yokoyama and her passengers, Cerino and Tillman.
Authorities aren’t yet commenting on whether Simons or any of the other individuals arrested were armed, but the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office did say that none of the suspects used any weapons in their attempts to evade capture.
Simons is being held at the Bannock County Jail along with Farmer, who’s been charged with misdemeanor resisting and obstructing for what happened outside the mall. Misdemeanor resisting and obstructing carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Farmer also had a warrant for her arrest for felony eluding for an earlier incident.
As a result of Friday's high-speed chase in Idaho Falls, Yokoyama has been charged with felony eluding, which carries a minimum five year prison sentence and a maximum fine of $50,000, and possession of methamphetamine, which is punishable by a maximum of seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine. Yokoyama is being held at the Bonneville County Jail.
Also booked into the Bonneville County Jail were Cerino, for misdemeanor resisting and obstructing for his alleged actions Friday as well as felony warrants for grand theft and a probation violation for earlier incidents, and Tillman, for misdemeanor resisting and obstructing.
Friday’s events did not end without Tillman racking up a disturbing the peace charge for his alleged behavior at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls where he was transported by deputies for medical clearance prior to being booked into Bonneville County Jail, authorities said. If convicted of disturbing the peace, Tillman faces the possibility of another six months in jail and $1,000 fine.
During the course of its investigation into the shooting and robbery, the Chubbuck Police Department said it was searching for two women, Day Witt and Alana Heyrend, both 19 of Pocatello.
The Chubbuck Police Department later announced that it made contact with the two women and they are no longer considered persons of interest related to the shooting and robbery.
The Chubbuck Police Department on Sunday praised the many Southeast Idaho residents who had provided authorities with information about the suspects that led to their capture.Â
"The outpouring of information from the public," Chubbuck police said in their Sunday morning press release, "demonstrates the trust that our community has in the Chubbuck Police Department and their tips and information were critical in bringing the case to where it is this morning."
