Chandigarh is one such city in North India, that provides ample scope for quick getaways. Since the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are in close proximity to the city, it’s essentially easy to access the hills from here. For absolute natural beauty and stunning vistas, this is where you should head this summer.

Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

India’s first national park, Jim Corbett National Park, located in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar is approximately a 6-hour drive away from Chandigarh. It’s a breeze of fresh air in summers; the park boasts of stunning flora and fauna. A day safari here is highly recommended if you want to spot animals like the elephant, peacock, deer, leopard and of course, the Royal Bengal Tiger.

Solan, Himachal Pradesh

Perched at an altitude of 1,467m above sea level, and surrounded by high peaks, Solan is a small hill station offering majestic views along with a year-round pleasant climate. About 5-hours by car from Chandigarh, Solan is perfect if you’re looking for solitude and peace. There isn’t much to do unlike other popular hill stations; but if you love to trek, there are some amazing trekking trails here. Also, in terms of attractions, there’s the Shoolini Temple, Jatoli Temple and Yungdrung Tibetan Monastery, the 800-year-old Kuthar Fort, and one of the oldest breweries in Solan, called the Mohan Meakin Brewery.

Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh

Perhaps the closest to Chandigarh, it takes just about 2 hours to drive to Kasauli. Offering great respite from city life, situated at an altitude of 1,927m above sea level, the snow-clad peaks and green forest covers of Kasauli are a treat to the traveller’s eyes. Highly reminiscent of India’s British past, Kasauli is home to great colonial architecture including magnificent churches. Among the things to do here: visit the Christ Church and Baptist Church for their Gothic architecture; head to the bounteous apple orchards in Parwanoo; take a stroll along the Mall Road; have an evening drink at Kasauli Brewery and spend a gorgeous evening at Monkey Point – the highest point in Kasauli that affords mesmerising views of the peaks of Dhauladhar and the Sutlej river flowing below.
