Punjab Police arrested a man for allegedly raping his 10-year-old daughter. The man was drunk and also beat up his wife.
The daughter alleged that her father had tried to assault her a number of times earlier too but she managed to escape. However, this time her father thrashed her mother, threw her out of the room, and then raped his daughter.
According to the Dainik Bhaskar, the victim said that her father, Gurbachan, also threatened to kill her if she told anybody about the incident.
The case came to light when a relative of the victim called the child helpline number and reported the matter.
Before the police could arrive neighbours had gathered hearing the mother's cries for help. The crowd thrashed the man before handing him over to the police.
Acting on the complaints of the victim's mother Bhunerheri police station in-charge Karanvir Singh said the accused has been arrested.
The child has been sent for medical examination, while her mother demanded stern action against her husband. She said, "I would rather be widowed than live with such a husband."
