The incident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and it came to light only on Monday when Sooraj's father arrived at the hospital to visit him.

He saw blood stains on Sooraj's hospital bed and observed that he was bleeding from his right foot.

He immediately rushed to ask the ward boy and nurses about the bleeding when he was told that rats must have eaten into his foot at night.
