A 27-year-old thief challenged the Mumbai Police with a "catch me if you can" dare. Mumbai Police accepted the challenge and to the thief's surprise caught him.

The police have also recovered laptops, iPads and other electronic goods from the thief.

Mumbai Police arrested Sonu Baniya Kumar the day he was about to burgle three jewellery shops in Vapi, Gujarat. Sonu had already done a recce and hired a bike rider to be his accomplice. They were leaving Mumbai for Vapi when the police arrested him.

Sonu Baniya Kumar is currently in the custody of Sewri police where a case has been registered against him for stealing a laptop and an iPad worth Rs 1.50 lakh.

The accused has over 50 cases against him and has been committing crime since he was a child. According to the police, Sonu Baniya Kumar is an orphan and spent the early part of his life in an orphanage. He started stealing at the age of 15.

Master of crime

According to DCP Rashmi Karandikar of Mumbai Police, Sonu Baniya Kumar was extremely skilled in stealing. He used to learn skills from YouTube videos. A police officer said, "Even inside the jail, he would talk to criminals and understand how they would commit crimes. He would learn from other criminals how to evade police arrest. He would keep changing SIM cards as well and change his locations every time."

Before the arrest, the police got his mobile number and he challenged cops saying, Catch me if you can. However, the cops have now managed to arrest him and right now he is under police custody. Police have said it will be extremely difficult for him to come out on bail as many cases are registered against him.
