Technical error in EVM hits 19 polling stations in Punjab, Chandigarh

Polling was delayed by 15-20 minutes in various parts of Chandigarh and Punjab due to technical errors in the EVMs.

According to reports, polling was affected in at least 19 polling stations in Punjab and Chandigarh. The Union Territory and Punjab State Capital reported EVM problems at least in five polling stations which include booth No 35,41,144,228 and 477.

EVM machines also encountered problems in booth number 55 of Baltana, Zirakpur and booth number 134 of phase 3B, Mohali.

People who reached the polling stations early in Bathinda were made to wait for 15-20 minutes in four polling stations in Bathinda's Ward No 12,14,37 and 97 respectively.

Voters also complained that machines did not work in booth number 90 of Moga, 78 of Barnala, 151 of Roop Nagar, 87 of Sujanpur, Pathankot besides Bharolikalan polling station and booth number 125 of Tirpuri, Patiala.

Abohar's Jandwala Hanumanta (Booth No 144) and regional centre polling statin of Muktsar district also reported EVM problem.

The faulty Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were, however, replaced and the polling was resumed at a normal pace.
