Negligence: 11 people lose eyesight during operation at Indore hospital

A total of 11 people have lost their eyesight at a hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. These tragedies took place while they were undergoing operations for cataract.

These operations were being carried out at Indore Eye Hospital.

Speaking about the matter, Chief Medical Officer Dr Pravin Jadia said, the 11 patients are being treated. "Treatment of 11 patients has begun. We will investigate the cause," he said.

The state administration has meanwhile ordered that a report should be submitted within 72 hours in this case.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Kamal Nath said the incident at Indore Eye Hospital is "very unfortunate". "The district collector has been asked to investigate the matter. We will investigate how this hospital was given permission to operate despite the fact that nine years ago a similar incident had happened here. The guilty will be punished," Kamal Nath said.

In another tweet, Kamal Nath said, "All patients have been shifted to other hospitals for better treatment. The government will provide all possible help to the patients and will bear the expenses for their treatment."

The chief minister has also announced assistance of Rs 50,000 to all the 11 patients.

Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Tulsi Silawat said the patients are being given "best treatment".

"I have ordered that the hospital's license should be cancelled." The minister said an FIR will be registered against those found guilty of negligence.

"A seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter," he said.
