Kashmir peaceful, not a single incident of violence reported, says J&K DGP Dilbag Singh

Jammu and Kashmir top cop has said that no violence has been reported in the Valley with situation being largely peaceful.

A day after the Centre scrapped Article 370 for Jammu and Kashmir, the situation is largely peaceful in the Valley, J&K DGP Dilbag Singh said on Tuesday.

Speaking to India Today, Jammu and Kashmir Director General (DGP) Dilbag Singh said, "There is zero violence in Kashmir. Any report of violence in the Valley is incorrect. Situation in south, north and central Kashmir is completely peaceful."

This comes in wake of reports of violence in South Kashmir. The top cop also rubbished the reports on social media. There were troublemakers sitting outside Delhi trying to incite people with reports of violence, Jammu and Kashmir Police had said.

GOVT SCRAPS ARTICLE 370, CURFEW CONTINUES

In a historic decision, the Modi government scrapped contentious Article 370 on Monday. The bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Once passed by Parliament, the contentious article will be scrapped, with the state of Jammu and Kashmir bifurcated into two Union Territories.

Meanwhile, curfew put in place to ensure peace in the region, continues on Tuesday.

Top security officials continue to camp in Srinagar, including National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. CRPF chief RR Bhatnagar is also in Kashmir to monitor the situation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to visit the Valley after the end of the Budget Session.

After the Rajya Sabha passed the bills, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday night reviewed the security situation and emphasised the need for constant alertness and preparedness to deal with any eventuality.

The government held a meeting with top officials and reviewed the prevailing security and law and order scenario in the state.

The governor stressed the need for ensuring safety of general public and advised the administration to give due consideration to the genuine needs of people in the current scenario, the spokesperson said.

Governor Malik has appealed to the public and leaders of various social, religious and political organisations to cooperate with the government machinery in the maintenance of law and order in the state, the spokesperson said.
