Bihar: Police officer, constable killed in encounter with criminals in Saran

A police sub-inspector and constable were killed in an encounter with criminals while they were returning after conducting raid in Marhaura in Chhapra district of Bihar on Tuesday evening.

Sub-Inspector Mithilesh Kumar Sah and constable Farooq were part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was investigating a dacoity case that took place in a house in Marhaura market under Garhka police station few days back. A SIT was formed to investigate this case.

According to sources, the SIT had gathered crucial evidence pertaining to the case and had gone to conduct raid in the village. While returning in a Bolero vehicle, the SIT team was attacked by criminals who opened fire indiscriminately on them. The police team did not get a chance to retaliate amidst heavy firing from the armed criminals. The vehicle in which the police team was travelling has also been damaged in the crossfire.

During the encounter SI Mithilesh Kumar and constable Feroz received bullet injuries and succumbed on the spot. Another police constable Rajnish Kumar who also received bullet injuries in one of his leg was referred to PMCH in critical condition.

Soon after information of the encounter reached the district police headquarters, several police team rushed to the spot. Chaos and panic prevailed in Marhaura soon after the incident as the entire market was immediately shut down. Massive police deployment has been put in place at the encounter site.

According to reports, the criminals used advanced automatic weapons to attack the police team.

The police has begun investigation in this case. Several police teams have been formed and raids are being conducted in adjoining areas to apprehend the assailants.
