The BJP stunned the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections by winning 28 of the 29 seats in the state. The only constituency where Congress managed to scrape through was Chindwara, where Chief Minister Kamal Nath's son Nakul registered a narrow win. In a stunning defeat, Congress failed to save its Guna citadel where Jyotiraditya Scindia met his Waterloo and lost by over one lakh votes.

The India Today-Axis My India post poll study hit the bulls-eye by predicting an exactly similar finish. In the end, the BJP secured 58 per cent of the total votes polled, registering an increase of a little over 4 per cent from what it had had polled during the previous general election. In the 2014 election, the BJP had polled 53.8 per cent votes and won 27 out of 29 seats.

Congress, on the other hand, got just 34 per cent votes, registering a fall of 11 per cent votes from the 2018 assembly elections when it had garnered 45 per cent votes.

According to the India Today- Axis My India survey data, the much hyped farm loan waiver announced by Kamal Nath just a few hours after taking oath as CM failed to pay any dividends as 55 per cent farmers voted for the BJP while only 38 per cent preferred Congress.

Among the young voters, in the 18 to 25 age group, a whopping 60 per cent voted for the BJP while only 32 per cent preferred Congress. As is evident from the final results, the BJP triumphed over Congress in all age groups and in all categories. Housewives, unemployed youth, working professionals, government servants, students, labourers, and farm labourers overwhelmingly voted for the BJP.

According to the caste and community break-up data of the India Today-Axis My India post poll study, the BJP again triumphed in all categories, with the lone exception of the Muslim vote, 82 per cent of which went to Congress and 14 per cent to the BJP.

The BJP was the preferred choice of illiterates, and those who have studied till class 8, class 10 and class 12 as well. Among graduates, post graduates and those holding professional degrees, the BJP was the preferred choice again.
