In Short

  • Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are the other two states to have revoked general consent to CBI
  • Chhattisgarh has asked Centre to tell CBI no to probe any case in the state without its permission
  • State govt did not give any reason for this in its letter to the Centre

The Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government in Chhattisgarh on Thursday withdrew the general consent granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe cases in the state.

With this, Chhattisgarh has become the third state to revoke permission to the country's premier investigating agency. West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh are the other two states to have done this.

The state government has however not extended any reason why it has withdrawn the general consent that was given to the CBI in the past.
