Congress gains victory in local body polls in Rajasthan

The by-polls were held to fill vacant post inwards of municipalities and municipal councils in Ajmer, Jaipur, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Pali, Karauli, Sirohi, Paratapgarh and Srigangangar.

The ruling Congress on Tuesday won nine seats in the by-elections to 12 wards in 11 urban local bodies held in a total of 10 districts of Rajasthan on August 4.

While the BJP registered a victory in two wards, an independent candidate won one seat.

The by-polls were held to fill vacant post inwards of municipalities and municipal councils in Ajmer, Jaipur, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Pali, Karauli, Sirohi, Paratapgarh and Srigangangar.

Congress candidate Deendayal Sharma won from ward 52 and Jyotika from Sarwar of Ajmer district.

Other Congress candidates who won are Rakhi from Taranagar of Churu, Nizam from Kishangarh-Renewal of Jaipur, Choru Lal from Nohar of Hanumangarh, Mukesh Rani from Surajgarh of Jhunjhunu, Mohd. Aslam from Abu Road of Sirohi, Goverdhan Lal from Pratapgarh and Sudhir Kumar from Karanpur of Sriganganagar district.

Gaytri Soni and Yashpal of the BJP won from ward 22 of Ajmer and Takatgarh of Pali district respectively, whereas independent candidate Jeetu Singh won from Hindaun city of Karauli district.
