Locals of Harsh Vihar noticed pieces of a slaughtered cow and animal foetus on the morning of March 21 near the boundary wall of Arora Farms. Tension ran high as the local people protested against the slaughter of a cow. However, timely and swift action by the police brought the situation under control.

Police spoke to the elders of both the communities and took them into confidence. This helped in controlling the situation going from bad to worse.

Delhi Police registered a case and an investigation launched.

During investigation, three persons -- Parvez, Lukman and Insallaham -- were arrested by the police. However, Imran went underground after the arrest of his associates and evaded his arrest.

On questioning the arrested persons said that in the wee hours of March 21 they along with Imran had slaughtered a cow in Harsh Vihar and scattered the body parts in the area.

Imran kept changing his hideouts in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR in order to evade arrest.

On interrogation, Imran disclosed that his family business is buying and selling of cattle. He said they killed the cow and scattered the body parts to instigate communal tension in the area on Holi.

Imran also said that he was earlier in 2016 charged under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for injecting a buffalo with poison and killing it. In the same year, he was arrested in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
