Three days after an incident of alleged assault on an auto-driver and his minor son by three policemen in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday said that the incident was an evidence of police brutality and how a uniformed force ought not to act.

According to a PTI report, a bench of justices Jayant Nath and Najmi Waziri had asked, "If this is not evidence of police brutality then what is?"

The bench has allotted July 2 as the next date of hearing.

The Delhi High Court also issued a notice to Delhi police and Home Ministry seeking status report on the incident in a week.

Delhi High Court's issue came after a petition was filed seeking records, including medical reports, of the case.

According to PTI, a petitioner had filed the plea based on media reports. The petition said that the auto-rickshaw driver and his minor son were brutally assaulted by the policemen on June 17 in north-west Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar.

However, the accused policeman denied all the charges and alleged that the auto-rickshaw driver had first attacked him with his 'kripan' (sword).

Speaking to India Today TV, one of the accused policemen, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Yograj Sharma said that tempo driver Sarabjeet Singh attacked him with the sword twice, resulting in serious injuries.

The incident came to light when a video of three policemen thrashing Sarabjeet Singh and his minor son with a stick was circulated. Contrary to this, another video was also shared on social media that showed the Gramin Sewa driver chasing policemen with a sword in his hand.

According to sources, an argument between a tempo driver and policemen over parking had erupted. The passers-by had then recorded the incident and shared it on social media.
