Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to file Rajya Sabha nomination from Rajasthan on August 13

If elected, Manmohan Singh will have his Rajya Sabha tenure till April 3, 2024.

Former Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader Dr Manmohan Singh will return to the Rajya Sabha with his name being cleared by the Congress as the party's candidate for the bypoll to the Upper House of Parliament from Rajasthan.

He will be reaching Jaipur on Tuesday for filing his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election.

"Dr. Singh will reach Jaipur on August 13 for filing his nomination," a source told India Today.

Manmohan Singh had been a Member of Parliament in the Upper House for the Congress party from Assam for almost three decades.

The Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan had fallen vacant after Madan Lal Saini, the BJP state President, passed away from the desert state.

If Manmohan Singh is elected from Rajasthan, which is likely to happen, given that the Congress is measure is in majority in Rajasthan, his tenure will be till April 3, 2024.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the election of the Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan. April 14 is the last date of filing nominations from Rajasthan.
