Haryana to insure 10 lakh cattle

Ten lakh head of cattle will be insured in Haryana in the current financial year through the National Livestock Mission (NLM) under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Samuhik Pashudhan Bima Yojana, an official statement said here Thursday. One lakh animals have already been insured between April and May this year.

The livestock mission is designed to cover all activities required to ensure quantitative and qualitative improvement in livestock production systems and capacity-building of all stakeholders.

According to the statement, the government is paying 100 per cent premium of those belong to the scheduled caste category.

Whereas other beneficiaries are being given one-year insurance at Rs 100 per cattle for big animals such as cows and buffaloes, and Rs 25 for small animals such as sheep, goats and pigs, the statement read. Under this scheme, 10 lakh head of cattle will be insured between April 2019 and March 31, 2020.

"In the event of accidental death of cattle, death due to disease, electric shock, by venomous creatures, or death due to flood or fire, compensation up to Rs 86,000 will be paid to the cattle-rearer," the statement said.
