Hospital staff refuses to treat pregnant woman in Madhya Pradesh

Another incident of medical apathy was reported in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district. A pregnant woman was allegedly denied treatment at a government hospital on Tuesday for failing to pay Rs 5,000.

According to an ANI report, the hospital staff refused to admit her as she failed to pay the amount.

"The statement of the relatives revealed that the hospital staff had demanded money. Proper action will be taken against the government hospital staff," said Narayan Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate from the district.

THE CASE

The incident happened on Tuesday (January 29) night after the woman from Tendukheda town in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh was asked to pay an amount of Rs 5,000 to get admitted. Failing to pay the money, the woman was denied treatment.

OTHER INCIDENTS

Earlier, a nine-year-old girl from Noida was allegedly denied treatment at a Delhi government hospital for not having Aadhaar. Later, she was admitted to the Safdarjung hospital after Union Health Minister JP Nadda intervened.

Another woman in Kashmir lost her newborn child after she delivered the baby on road in Srinagar. The woman, a resident of Kupwara district of north Kashmir, delivered the baby girl on the road after a hospital refused to admit her.

In another case of medical apathy, a woman in Uttar Pradesh's Shravasti district was left to give birth to her child on the roadside after allegedly turned away by two hospitals.
