IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in several states including Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu.

"Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal," IMD said in its bulletin on Monday.

The weather body has also predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning very likely at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha today.

The water level in the Yamuna river in the National Capital started rising rapidly after 8 lakh cusecs water was released from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana. The Delhi government has deployed civil defence volunteers for evacuating people to safer places.

The water level touched the "warning mark" of 204.5m in the morning at Old Delhi Railway Bridge.

IMD has predicted "generally cloudy sky with light rain" in Delhi today.
