Over 100 doctors have claimed to be defrauded in an alleged scam. Special operations group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police acted upon a complaint from a few doctors and arrested three persons including one doctor Ram Khilari. The doctor is accused of cultivating a network among doctors by offering them good returns.

Soon, about a hundred more doctors alleged fraud and informed the SOG about the fraud. The Rajasthan Police suspect that another 50 doctors outside the state could also be among the affected lot.

The modus operandi, the complainants say, had been to get the doctors huge loans. The loan money was then allegedly transferred to the suspects for investment in shares and elsewhere. The suspects even gave doctors expensive cars at very low-interest rates or EMIs.

The doctors' investors opened several night clubs, bars, and restaurants and reportedly gave doctors share or ownership, too, in such investment.

The doctors decided to go to the police when their investor was unable to get enough returns to repay EMIs of the bank loans.

As the police went deeper into the fraud, it appeared that the doctors knowingly took bank loans. Whether the banks followed norms or if the doctors provided correct information to the banks is a matter of investigation.

"We cannot comment on the connivance of doctors and whether procedures to get loans were followed,'' SOG chief Anil Paliwal said. But, he said, it is hard to believe that doctors so innocently made such heavy investments by taking bank loans.

Banks, on the other hands, have made it clear that doctors will have to repay their loans.
