Section 144 imposed in 15 areas of Jaipur as violence grips city

So far, in the violence that has gripped parts of the city, more than two dozen people have been injured and more than 50 vehicles have been damaged.

Section 144 has been imposed in 15 areas in Jaipur after violence gripped parts of the city for the third consecutive day after tensions erupted between two communities.

Several incidents of violence affected law and order situation in the city.

In Jaipur, Section 144 has been imposed in Galta Gate, Ramganj, Subhash Chowk, Majak Chowk, Brahmpuri, Kotwali, Sanjay Circle, Nahargarh, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Adarsh Nagar, Moti Doongri, Lal Kothi, Transport Nagar and Jawahar Nagar. Internet and broadband services have been suspended in these areas to prevent rumours from spreading.

On Sunday, while the Kaavad yatra was being carried out, there was stone pelting and clashes between two groups.

On Monday, violence broke out in Galta Gate area after several people created nuisance in the area during the night, climbing onto buses and thrashing passengers.

On Tuesday, incidents of violence took place in Badanpura and Rawal ji Chauraha. Two groups fought a pitched battle in which more than two dozen vehicles were damaged and 10 people were injured.

Police had to resort to tear-gas shelling so as to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control. Several incidents of stone-pelting and hooliganism in the past three days has also left police personnel injured.
