Kashmir Updates: Terror alert issued in Valley ahead of Independence Day

Clampdown in Jammu and Kashmir continues after abrogation of Article 370 on Day 7 today. It is said that Kashmir Valley is peaceful as restrictions have been relaxed in some parts ahead of Eid tomorrow. J&K Police have denied media reports of firing incidents in the valley, and urged people not to believe "mischievous and motivated news". In fact, the police said they have not fired a single bullet so far in six days. Police also mentioned prohibitory orders were lifted from 10 districts in Jammu. The Ministry of Home Affairs also rubbished media reports about a protest by nearly 10,000 people in Kashmir as "fabricated and incorrect". The Ministry said there had been a few stray protests in the Valley in the past few days against scrapping of J&K’s special status and none of these involved a crowd of more than 20 people. Later in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asked the government and PM Narendra Modi to clear what is happening in Kashmir and Ladakh. Meanwhile, the Modi government is now preparing to carry out delimitation of assembly seats in J&K, the intentions for which have been made clear. A delimitation commission is likely to be appointed soon which will redraw the electoral map of newly created union territory of J&K. Stay tuned to IndiaToday.in for all the live updates of all that is happening around the Kashmir issue.
