Jharkhand: 2 boys die as under-construction building collapses

Two minor boys were killed and seven injured on Saturday when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in West Singhbhum district, police said.

The boys - aged between 8 and 10 years - were playing in front of the building when the mishap took place, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Kiriburu), Harihar Ravi said.

The incident happened at Oraonsaitola of Padampahar village under Noamundi police station of the district.

Ravi said the injured were rushed to Noamundi Hospital. However, the doctors declared two of the boys "brought dead". Two of the seriously injured were referred to the Tata Main Hospital here.

The two boys who lost their lives were identified as Rohit and Rockey, aged 9 and 10 years, respectively.

The house was being constructed under the Ambedkar Awas Yojana, Ravi said.

Eyewitnesses told the police that an earthmover was engaged near the incident site, Ravi said.

Police is trying to ascertain if the earthmover was in any way responsible for the incident, he said.
