A bomb blast in Thangal Bazar area of Imphal has injured two police officers.

Five policemen and one civilian were severely injured after a bomb blast in Thangal Bazar area of Imphal in Manipur on Tuesday. The blast occurred at around 9:30 am when the market was abuzz with traffic and office goers.

Police cordoned off the area completely soon after the bomb blast injured the six individuals. The injured persons are as follows: Lamabam Amarjit, Thongam Devan, Ningthoujam Ibotomba Singh, Khuraijam Boney of Singjamei Chingamathak, Huirongbam Boboy and Krishna Gurung. Besides Gurung, all of the injured individuals were cops.

While the blast radius was limited to a small area, it seems that the injured individuals were standing close to the area where the bomb exploded. The powerful bomb was planted by unknown miscreants and all injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Manipur police team led by SP Imphal rushed to the spot and began search operations. No underground outfit was claimed so far. Interestingly, the area where the blast took place was just 150 metres from the city police station.

Within an hour of the blast, Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh visited the blast site. He said, "This is a heinous and coward act. We condemn it strongly. Those responsible for this will be punished."
