A man was detained by police in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district for allegedly posting derogatory comments against a Catholic priest on his facebook wall, a senior police officer said Wednesday.

The man identified as Rimialson Daw was detained after a complaint was lodged against him for posting derogatory comments against Archbishop of Shillong Rev Dominic Jala on Monday night, Superintendent of Police, Lakador Syiem said.

Jaladied in a car accident in California, US, recently.

Daw was brought to the Jowai Police Station for questioning and was later sent for medical examination as his relatives claimed he was mentally unstable, Syiem said.

The SP said the investigation into the case is in progress even as Daw's family members have tendered a public apology on his behalf.

According to family members, Daw is suffering from Schizophrenia.

He was earlier arrested for posting derogatory remarks against a woman minister in 2013.
