Nagaland flood: Indian army, Assam Rifles personnel rescue stranded villagers in Dimapur

Around 300 families have been affected after the flood waters of Diphu and Dhansiri river submerged several colonies and villages in Dimapur, Nagaland.

The water levels of Diphu and Dhansiri river rose following a heavy downpour in past 72 hours. As a result, the neighbouring colonies and vilages were flooded.

According to Dimapur district administration, colonies like Sachu, Zeliangrong, Nagarjan, Bor Lengiri, Domokhia village areas have been the worst affected.

The Indian army and the Assam Rifles personnel have been engaged in rescue operation of stranded villagers.

The troops undertook evacuation of a large number of people including women and children stuck in their houses due to the rising waters of Diphu and Dhansiri river.

With rains lashing Dimapur for three consecutive days and nights, the residents of Domokhia village found their houses submerged in knee-deep waters.

Residents of Domokhia found their homes lightless and dark on the festival of Diwali.

The district administration proactively requisitioned the services of the Indian army and Assam Rifles to rescue the stranded villagers.

The combined team of Indian army, Assam Rifles and the district administration reached the spot and evacuated all locals safely to the relief camp established by the district administration in the village.

The locals were provided with hot food and the relief camp was provided lighting arrangements and drinking water facilities too.
