NIA arrests Burdwan bomb blast accused in Indore

According to police sources, Zahirul was the driver that ferried other accused from a madrasa which was linked to the bombing conspiracy.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths have arrested Zahirul Sheikh from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Zahirul Sheikh is a key accused in the 2014 Burdwan bombing case who is said to have been living in Indore under the guise of a painter.

Police sources said Sheikh was arrested from the Azad Nagar locality in Indore. He was produced before a magistrate who accorded transit remand to NIA. He will be produced before a special NIA court in Kolkata.

Sheikh is said to be a resident of Nadia under the jurisdiction of Haiderpara police station in West Bengal. He is associated with the Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). More than 30 people have been charged in the 2014 Burdwan bombing case.

On Octorber 2, 2014, the Burdwan blast had left two people dead. Zahirul had been absconding since then after police searched his house and found explosives hidden.

Police sources said before arriving in Indore, Zahirul had been working as a labourer in other cities of the country. He is said to have arrived in Indore about two years ago after which he started working a wall painter.
