"The two children were stuck to the staircase for a long time. People tried to save them, but the two died on the spot due to electrocution," a police official said.

Both boys were brought dead to the hospital, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Shatabdi Hospital, Dr Lekharaj told news agency ANI.

As Mumbai got some respite from the heatwave after the Monday showers, several people stepped out of their homes to enjoy the rains.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, blaming the electricity department for the tragic incident, locals said the department had failed to complete their pre-monsoon work.
