Rajasthan court to pronounce verdict in Pehlu Khan lynching case on August 14

The court of Additional District Judge in Rajasthan's Alwar district will pronounce the judgement in Pehlu Khan's lynching case on Wednesday.

The trial in the lynching case has already been completed. More than 40 witnesses, including the two sons of Pehlu Khan, who were accompanying him on the day of the attack, have been deposed in the case so far.

Pehlu Khan, a native of Nuh in Haryana, was brutally beaten up by self-styled cow vigilantes near Behror in Rajasthan on the Delhi-Alwar highway on April 1, for transporting cattle without prior permission.

He succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital on April 3. The lynching was caught on camera.

Police had earlier given a clean chit to all six people accused of lynching Pehlu Khan. The police's decision was reportedly based on statements of the staff of a cow shelter and mobile phone records.

While the mob-lynchers were set free, charges were being framed against Pehlu Khan under section 6 of the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 1995. Police had also chargesheeted Pehlu Khan's sons Irsad (25) and Arif (22) under sections 5, 8 and 9.

Following the accusation on Pehlu Khan, his family called for justice in the lynching case. They protested against the state government's move to chargesheet Pehlu Khan for cow smuggling.

The family said that on April 1, 2017, Pehlu Khan, with six other people, was returning from a cattle fair in Jaipur after purchasing cows and other bovine animals.

On his way back to Nuh in Haryana, he was brutally attacked on NH 8 by a mob of more than a dozen people.

Pehlu Khan was accused of cow smuggling even though he had the receipt of purchase of bovine animals from the cattle fair in Rajasthan's Jaipur.

All the accused in the lynching case of Pehlu Khan, including two minors, are currently out of jail.
