Separatist shutdown affects life in Srinagar

Life in Srinagar has been affected by a shutdown called by separatists on Monday. It has also affected some other areas in the Kashmir valley.
The shutdown was called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) which is a separatist conglomerate headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. It was to highlight alleged human rights violations by the security forces.
The city entertained closed shops, public transport and other business establishments. However, private transport and three-wheelers were seen plying on the roads.
To check security, authorities have positioned police and Central Reserve Police Force troopers in Srinagar's old city area and other law and order sensitive places of the valley.
No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far.
