Tamil Nadu: Murder of Tasmac employee triggers protests in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri, protesters demand action against accused

More than 300 employees of Tasmac on Friday staged a protest in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts of Tamil Nadu two days after their colleague was found murdered at the shop he worked at.

The murder took place on August 14 in Krishnagiri around midnight when M Raja was allegedly attacked by unidentified men when he was shutting down the Tasmac shop.

The State-run liquor employees have demanded stringent action against the accused.

In order to bring attention to the increased number of attacks, the Tasmac workers have also demanded security for the employees.

Other demands by the protesters include alteration of the working hours. They have demanded that Tasmac shops should be closed by 8 pm instead of the existing 10 pm.

Following the killing of the Tasmac employee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had offered Rs 10 lakh compensation for the victim's family.

However, the protesters have demanded that the compensation should be increased to Rs 25 lakh.

The AIADMK leader had also ordered compensation to be disbursed immediately from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

The state has also promised a government job to Raja’s wife based on her educational qualifications.
