A leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Uttar Pradesh, who was injured in firing earlier this month, had stage-managed the incident to become famous and get security from the government, police have said.

Ten days after he was shot at, the district general secretary of BJYM in Maharajganj, Shiv Bhushan, was arrested on Monday. The police also arrested four aides of BJP youth leader Shiv Bhushan.

Staged attack for a gunner

Shiv Bhushan alias Chanchal Chaubey was fast emerging as one of the top leaders of the BJP in Maharajganj. But he wanted more. Police said Shiv Bhushan wished to have a licensed weapon and security personnel around him.

But he was aware of political hurdles. And so to fulfil these desires, he hatched a conspiracy with the help of his friends.

What had happened?

On August 2, Shiv Bhushan along with his friend Monu kashyap reached a sweetshop where the two ordered an ice-cream. Just then, two men came in a car, stopped near the shop and fired at the BJP youth leader. They, however, managed to flee.

After he brought up the incident to police and even media, the police began the investigation. As police scrutinised CCTV footage, they saw victim Shiv Bhushan and the accused shooters leaving from the same place, which made them suspicious.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Shiv Bhushan's two friends along with the weapon used in the attack. The police also arrested arm supplier Arun Tiwari. These arrests led police to crack the case after which the BJYM leader was arrested

Meanwhile, the BJP leaders, who had earlier asked the police to expedite probe, have now said if the incident was staged, the party authorities will take necessary action against Shiv Bhushan.
