Heavy rains on Monday morning resulted in waterlogging and traffic congestion in Lucknow creating problems for the commuters. The rain water also entered the premises of UP Prison Minister Jai Kumar Singh's residence exposing the miserable condition of the drainage system in prime localities.

The first heavy monsoon rains lashed Lucknow on Monday. After 3-4 hours of rainfall, waterlogging was reported at Hazratganj, many areas of Gomti Nagar, Dalibagh colony, Lalbagh, Sapru Marg and many areas falling under the old city.

Heavy waterlogging was seen outside the residence of UP minister Jai Kumar Singh and the premises had turned into a pool.

Traffic congestions were reported at multiple places across Lucknow, including Gomti Nagar, Lohia Path, Hazratganj, Indira Nagar and other areas near chowk.

It was a nightmare morning for commuters especially office going people, who took more than an hour to cover 4-5 kms of distance.

A big portion of road outside the Vidhan Sabha area also caved in following heavy rains.

A portion of a police post in Chowk area and a dilapidated building collapsed at the Bazarkhala area in Lucknow due to heavy rain. However, no human injuries have been reported in both the incidents.

At least 70 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in UP from 26th July till now. More than 400 houses/huts have either completely or partially collapsed due to rains.

UP chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey held a video conference with all the commissioners and district magistrates across the state and have directed them to ensure that arrangements are made in every district so that minimum damage takes place due to heavy rains.

All the officials have also been directed to identify dilapidated properties across the state and get them evacuated. The officers have also been instructed to provide immediate relief to people affected due to rain by the chief secretary.

In the wake of prediction of more heavy rainfall in Lucknow, the district magisterate Kaushal Raj Sharma has ordered that all schools in the district will remain shut on 31st of July.
