Widespread rain and snow with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are very likely over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and over Uttarakhand today (February 7), according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

Thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms at isolated places are likely over the western Himalayan region, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan during next two days; over north Madhya Pradesh today; north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand tomorrow.

Thunderstorms are also likely to take place in Bihar today and tomorrow and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on February 8 and 9, and over Assam and Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on February 9.

Strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph are likely over northwest India and adjoining central India -- including Gujarat -- during the next two days.

According to the IMD, the minimum temperatures are very likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius over east and northeast India during next two days.

There will be no significant change in minimum temperatures likely over the rest of the country during next two days. They will fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius over West and central India thereafter.

SCHOOLS CLOSED IN UTTARAKHAND

Thunderstorms accompanied with hailstorms and gusty winds at isolated places are likely over the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh.

All schools and Anganwadi centres in Bageshwar, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Champawat will remain closed today (February 7) in light of heavy rain forecast in the mountain ranges of the state.

The IMD has already issued an alert of heavy rain or snowfall at a few places in the state. It has also warned of thunderstorm accompanied with an isolated hailstorm in several areas of Uttarakhand.

Strong winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to occur over the north and east-central Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into this area.

Thunderstorms with light to moderate rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Karnal, Kaithal, Khurja, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad, Amroha and thunderstorms with hail and moderate rain would occur at Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar, Greater Noida, Dadri, Gulothi, Hapur and adjoining areas during next two hours.

TRAINS AND FLIGHTS DELAYED

Around 16 trains to Delhi are also running late due to fog, according to news agency ANI.

A few flights have been delayed at the Delhi and Mumbai airports. Flights were also delayed at the Chandigarh airport due to foggy weather.
