West Bengal: Mentally challenged man brings traffic to standstill, bites nearly 22 people

In a bizarre incident, a mentally challenged man on Saturday brought traffic to a standstill on the busy GT Road near Rasbari in Howrah, West Bengal for over 40 minutes.

The man, suspected to be from Samastipur in Bihar, bit close to 22 people including six policemen as the dramatic episode unfolded, reported The Times of India.

At around noon, the bare-bodied man suddenly started pelting stones at random commuters. When the locals tried pacifying him, the man turned even more violent and bit over 10 people.

A mob then tied him up, pelted stoned and landed blows on him. Police later came into rescue the man but not without conflict. The man bit at least three more policemen before they could handcuff him.

He was immediately escorted to the Howrah District Hospital where he attacked more policemen and even nurses. He was finally moved to the Pavlov Institute.

A list of neuro drugs was found from his pocket and an identity document with the name Lalit Chowdhury on it.
