Gang steals CCTV cameras in North Delhi
In the Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency, the devices were stolen from the CCTV camera setup.
Normally, thieves are tracked through CCTV cameras, but the situation in Delhi seems to have been reversed. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government's ambitious project of installing over two lakh CCTV cameras has now become the target of the city's thieves.
In the Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency, the devices were stolen from the CCTV camera setup. In the past, local MLA Pawan Sharma had installed 50 CCTV cameras while launching the project in Jahangir Puri G block and Jhuggi basti. However, these cameras were not functional because neither the DVR was installed nor a monitoring screen.
Thieves, however, seemed to care less. Parts of these cameras were stolen from outside many homes. While talking to India Today TV, MLA Pawan Sharma put full responsibility on the Delhi Police. According to Sharma, CM Kejriwal was responsibile for installing CCTV cameras but the responsibility of keeping them safe lay with the Delhi Police.
He said the police was acting negligently in this case. RWA President Indramani Tiwari, a resident of Jahangirpuri, said that since last four months, CCTV cameras have been kept as showpieces. According to Tiwari, he had written to the local MLA and demanded to make the cameras operational.
