The Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday flagged off a fresh lot of 100 standard floor buses equipped with hydraulic lifts, CCTV cameras and panic button under the cluster scheme.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had rolled out 100 standard buses earlier this month. Since August this year, a government spokesperson said, "As many as 329 new standard floor buses have been added to the existing fleet by the Delhi government."

"Now, the cluster bus fleet operated by the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal System (DIMTS) has 2,008 buses," the spokesperson said. The chief minister hoped that the addition of new buses will resolve the shortage of public transportation in the Capital.

"I want to congratulate the people of Delhi as 100 new buses are arriving on the roads of Delhi. Several new buses have arrived in the last few months, and the rest are coming soon. I believe that with the induction of new buses, the irregularity in public transportation in Delhi will be resolved," Kejriwal said during the event. "Just like the transformations in the health and education sectors in Delhi, we want the public transport sector to become technologically advanced and be recognised internationally.

The people of Delhi will be proud of our transport sector," he said. A government statement said that the buses are equipped with ultra-modern facilities and state-of-the-art features like GPS trackers, panic buttons, CCTV, and hydraulic lifts for the convenience of the differently-abled. Most of these buses will run between Old Delhi Railway station and Mubarakpur Dabas, Nilothi, Bakoli Temple, Rohini Sector 23 and Lumpur Border. Some 15 buses will operate on the route between Qutubgarh to Palika Kendra and 20 between Uttam Nagar and Delhi airport. The statement said that 473 new buses will be added in the existing DTC bus fleet between January and May next year. The Union Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, was also present at the event.
