Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall, bringing down the temperature.

While heat-waves have struck several parts of the country, Kedarnath in Uttarakhand has received fresh snowfall, bringing down the temperature in the state drastically. The tourists have been shifted to safe and secured places, said authorities on Saturday.

The Kapat of Kedarnath was reopened for the devotees on Thursday (May 9). Hundreds of tourists have reached the dham and the authorities have asked them to stay indoors.

The Kedarnath mandir premises got covered with around five to eight feet snow. SP Rudraprayag Ajay Singh said, "We are taking care of the pilgrims, it is our duty to give provide them with safe places. Once it stops snowing they may visit the pilgrimage centres."

Meanwhile, part of Uttrakhand is burning in the extreme heat-waves and forest fires have been reported in several places across the state.

Forest fires were reported in Balganga, Bhilangana, Pokhariyal range of Tehri district and forest properties worth lakhs have been destroyed.

So far, the authorities could control forest fires in five areas in Bhilangana.
