Aamir Khan donates Rs 25 lakh for Maharashtra floods. CM Devendra Fadnavis thanks Dangal actor

Aamir Khan and Lata Mangeshwar have joined Bollywood in donating towards Maharashtra flood relief. Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and his wife Genelia also contributed towards the cause.

After Akshay Kumar, who donated a total sum of Rs 2 crore for Assam floods, another Bollywood star has contributed towards the noble cause this time for Maharashtra. Aamir Khan has donated Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra's Chief Minister's Relief Fund after floods wreak havoc in some parts of the state.

State's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, took to Twitter to announce that the Dangal actor has contributed towards the cause. The minister wrote, "Thank you @aamir_khan for your contribution of 25,00,000/- (25 lakh) towards #CMReliefFund #MaharashtraFloods!"

Apart from Aamir Khan, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar also donated Rs 11 lakh for the flood victims.

Thanking the singer for her contribution, the Chief Minister wrote, "We are also thankful to respected Lata Didi for the contribution of 11,00,000/- (11 lakh) towards #CMReliefFund #MaharashtraFloods!"

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan and Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited also donated for the floods. While Big B donated Rs 51 lakh, RIL contributed Rs 5 crore towards CM's Flood Relief to aid rehabilitation work in flood-hit Maharashtra. Anant Ambani present the Rs 5 crore cheque to CM Fadnavis.

On August 12, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh donated Rs 25 lakh towards the relief fund. And a day later, it was reported that CM Fadnavis and all other ministers in the Maharashtra cabinet donated a month's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

According to a report in The Economics Times, the state Cabinet announced Rs 6,813 crore assistance for the flood-hit people, out of which Rs 4,708 crore was allocated to Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara and Rs 2,105 crore for Konkan region, Nashik and rest of the affected districts.

On August 16, an official statement informed that the death toll due to the floods and heavy rainfall in Pune division reached 54. As per the statement from the Divisional Commissioner's office in Pune, at least 4,74,226 people have been rescued from 584 villages and evacuated to 596 temporary shelters in Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara and Solapur districts.
