Director Shankar's dream project 2.0, which was produced on an extravagant budget of over Rs 550 crore, is Indian costliest film ever made. The sci-fi film starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar hit the theatres on November 29.

In two weeks of its theatrical run, 2.0 has managed to breach the Rs 700-crore mark. With this record, the Shankar-directed film becomes the first ever Kollywood movie to cross Rs 700 crore.

According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the film has garnered Rs 710.98 crore worldwide. In Tamil Nadu, 2.0 has minted Rs 166.98 crore in two weeks.

The film seems to be holding strong in the international market as well. Trade reports suggest that 2.0 will be screened in over 100 theatres in the US even after two weeks. No other Indian film got the opportunity to have an extended theatrical run in North America.

2.0 imparts a global message that the world is not just for humans but also for other living beings.The film has Rajinikanth in multiple avatars - Dr Vaseegaran, Chitti, 2.0 and microbots 3.0.
