With Nerkonda Paarvai, Ajith sets a new box office record in Tamil Nadu

Actor Ajith's Nerkonda Paarvai has turned out to be a blockbuster, which has earned approximately Rs 70 crore from Tamil Nadu theatres alone. With the humongous success, Ajith has made a huge record at the box office in Tamil Nadu.

His previous outing Viswasam, which released on Pongal 2019, earned Rs 140 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office alone. The cumulative Tamil Nadu box office collection of the two films have made Ajith the first actor to earn more than Rs 200 crore in a single year (this doesn't include the money earned from other states and countries).

Speaking to IndiaToday.in, film trade analyst Ramesh Bala said, "Many heroes have done good business earlier, but in terms of Tamil Nadu box office, Ajith is the first actor earn Rs 200 crore in one year."

When asked if Nerkonda Paarvai will surpass the collection of Viswasam, he said, "It is unlikely to happen. Viswasam was a masala film but Nerkonda Paarvai is a bit classy. Though it has made very good business, it will fall short of Viswasam's collection."

Directed by H Vinoth, the film is the debut Tamil production venture of Bollywood filmmaker Boney Kapoor. The film stars Shraddha Srinath, Vidya Balan and Abhirami in the lead roles. Nerkonda Paarvai opened to rave reviews from critics. The film is the Tamil remake of 2016 Hindi film Pink. In the Tamil version, Ajith plays the role that Amitabh Bachchan played in the Hindi original.

Ajith is teaming up with H Vinoth again after Nerkonda Paarvai, for a commercial entertainer, which will be released in 2020. H Vinoth has said that he has a few ideas, but has not finalised anything till now.
