Foundation stone for ALIMCO's production unit laid in Faridabad

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) To cater to the needs of the differently-abled persons from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid the foundation stone of a production unit of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) at Nawada village of Faridabad district today.

The decision to set up the Auxiliary Production Unit and State-of-the-Art Artificial Limbs Fitting Centre of ALIMCO was taken following demands from the differently-abled persons, who faced difficulties in visiting Kanpur to avail the facilities of evaluation, measurements and fitment of assistive devices at the ALIMCO headquarters, an official statement said.

The unit will be set up under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The foundation stone was laid by Khattar and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar.

The Faridabad unit will substantially reduce the time taken to travel for the differently-abled persons from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and to some extent, for those from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Once functional, the unit will not only reinforce the capacity of ALIMCO, but also provide other rehabilitation services like limbs-fitting, awareness generation about other schemes for the empowerment of differently-abled persons etc. PTI PLB RC RC
